Cyberpunk Street Photography – Dongdaemun
Cyberpunk Street Photography – Dongdaemun

First of all, thank you for finding this channel,
my name is Noe and uh I’m a street photographer here in Seoul, South Korea. And right now we’re in Dongdaemun, Dongdaemun
is one of the older districts North side. It’s actually got two parts, there is the
more ritzy part with lots of malls and lots of shopping, and then there is the much older
part which I’m in with all the restaurants and alleyways. And I wanted to show you guys, look around,
at how I take pictures in this area because it is one of my favorite places to take photos. Not only because close to my house, but also
because I think it’s got a lot of vibrance and flavor. If any of you guys follow me on instagram,
you may notice that I shoot a lot from Dongdaemun. And that’s because it is a very varied area. You have, there’s two parts to Dongdaemun
really. It’s like 10 blocks, one half is like all
shopping malls and lights everywhere, very modern, you have the Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Which looks like a giant spaceship. And on the other hand you have like the more
older version of Dongdaemun which is where I am at right now. So since this place is so close to my house. I like to come here and shoot often. The thing is, and this is very good if you
are a photographer, don’t just go to one place and shoot one time and think you are done
with it. Because…many times if you return to that
shot, at like different times of the day, different weather, or just even during the
same time, you will notice something different. And that is the way Dongdaemun is, I come
here all the time but I always walk out with like very different shots. If you go more towards the back, you’re going
to go into the alleyways. And uh, my friend, his name is Robert, he
actually got me into this whole cyberpunk stuff but he likes a lot of people and I am
the opposite. I like it when there’s very few people in
my photos. So…the nice thing about Dongdaemun is it’s
open, not gonna say 24 hours but Seoul is a night city and this part in particular. All the shops are open until like 5:20 am
and tney open up again like at 10 in the morning so. If you’re a tourist, or a photographer, you
can come here at night so you don’t waste any time of your trip just shooting all day
and all night, that’s how I would do it. And also if you come here be sure to give
me a shout out, we can go shooting together because it is in my area. There’s some alleyways in here, and I really
want to walk through them and kind of see what there is to shoot. Like when I go shooting, I don’t really have
a plan or anything I just kinda, just kinda go you know, go with the flow. So we are going through some pretty dark parts
but actually, I’m not afraid because Korea is a very safe safe place. You can go anywhere in
the middle of the night, it’s fine.

Holy shit. Iโ€™ve had so many pictures of yours saved in my phone and I had no idea where they came from. I found this channel randomly and to my pleasant surprise you took some of my favorite pictures. Crazy coincidence.

I wish I had come across you online before I spent 2 months in Korea… I spent so long walking around Seoul and Busan but was really struggling with the street style. Most of my photography experience is landscapes and I was finding it really hard to get the shot right with people in it. Maybe it's just my taste but I was unhappy with so many of the results, would have loved to get some advice and a local perspective.

As a Korean, I didn't much like the complicated street scenery of Korea before. Because it represented indiscreet economic development. But now, such a complex landscape is now becoming an icon of Korea.
